A hidden gem near Vancouver, easily accessible and kid friendly trail with spectacular view of Stave lake.

Hunter Trail is a perfect winter trail for beginners as it is a wide gravel road trail with no steep grades and risk of avalanches. It is located in steelhead community in Mission, BC which is about one and half hours away from Vancouver.

When we did this hike in the late December there was about 6" snow while we managed without micro spikes and gaiters we recommend micro spikes, gaiter and poles. The first and last sections are the steepest and in between is pretty much flat. Trail starts off with steep elevation for about 1.5 km and then drops slightly for 2 km before reaching the final incline for another 1.5 km. There are no markers on the road, make sure to go left at all of the junctions as you ascend the steep sections and pass through the level sections.

There is not much to see on the trail but when you reach to the top the view is amazing! View of Stave lake with the backdrop of magnificent snow capped mountains are just breathtaking.

Trailhead is accessed at the dead end of Sabo Street. There is a metal gate and small gravel parking on the left just before the trail starts. Please be respectful and do not block the driveways of residents or the metal gate. Arrive early to get a parking spot.

Have you been to Hunter Trail this winter? If so, please share your experience in the comments below. Happy Hiking!!
